The Wistful Tunes of the Carnyx

Doesn’t Carnyx sound like the name of some fantasy creature or hero? In fact, that isn’t too far off.

The Carnyx is a type of musical instrument that existed in Celtic culture during the Iron Age. It was the horn with which the Celts would run to battle. Can you imagine a field of battle where some guy all painted up in war paint is blowing on a Carynx and running toward you?

As a former trombone player, I’m intrigued by this instrument as it seems like something that I could probably make noise on. And, I think you’ll agree, the Carnyx is infinitely cooler looking than a trombone.

Anyway, that’s it for today. Don’t say you never saw anything interesting on my blog.
